| - I'm originally from the NYC area, so to say that there is an Italian Ice place in Ontario... FINALLY after all these years being in Canada, is a happy moment.
Rita's is a little different from usual Italian Ice, texture is closer to a slushie than Italian Ice. It's a PA originated product, not NY where Italian Ice was birthed (well, what we know as Italian Ice). Rita's more closely resembles the original texture of a Granita - what was made in Italy then brought over to America. Think Chicago deep dish vs. NYC pizza debates haha, people in NY and PA have very very strong opinions about their Italian Ice.
This place JUST opened. Super clean, great staff and super friendly nice owner. I expressed my deep love of Italian ice and he even offered to make specific flavors if I called in ahead and asked to buy some in bulk for the home freezer. One thing people might not pick up on, but you must know it, you're getting a crazy value here. The prices are insanely good, I even told the owner he should charge 2x the price. In NY you're going to get half the amount at the same price for say a small size. Take advantage of Italian Ice just starting to get some footing in Canada, and go here every day.
They are just starting off so I'll give a pass on a very limited list of flavors and no cream ice being available the time I went which is (cream ice) THE best thing on earth. Better than Ice Cream IMO when done right. Can't wait to see this store grow, hoping Canadians latch on to Italian Ice and embrace it!
