I have been going to Makino for several years now. I used to go at least four to eight times a month during this time. Over time I realized I have been going quite a bit less but couldn't put my finger on why.
Today I went again. I got my plate and when I went to get sushi, there were three mexican sushi chefs loudly carrying on a conversation in spanish. OK, I get that times are tough and the first rate sushi places get the real Japanese chefs. But do you have to alienate your customers with something this out of place in a sushi restaurant?
I then noticed the jalapeƱo slices on the sushi. WHAT??? Is this some kind of odd mexican fusion restaurant now? I then noticed the talipia. OK, so this place is no longer a sushi place.
I went into full on restaurant food critic mode. The salads were not tasty and were poorly made. The hand rolls had canned tuna in them. The soups were just sad. I saw a few things that made me question their food sanitation.
Makino is on a down hill slide and I will not be going back. I gave them 2 stars because the food is still edible, but for 20+ dollars, it is not worth it.
