| - We stayed here for two nights in June. The location is fantastic - less than a block away from the Berri-UQAM metro stop, which serves all 4 metro lines; a little more than a block away from the IGA grocery store and liquor store; and the Emilie-Gamelin park has cool events and a small cafe/beer garden. The rest of Labelle St. is pretty much abandoned and can seem a little dicey after dark, but it's a big city, so what do you expect? (The hotel across the way is also undergoing major renovation, but that's out of anyone's control.)
The bilingual staff are friendly and our room was clean. We opted for a bigger room and it was nice to have space to move around, plus the stovetop and coffeemaker came in handy. It was nice to have a mini-fridge to keep our groceries and snacks, too. The shower was hot and water pressure was great, but it inevitably emitted a high-pitched SQUEEEEEEEAL a few minutes into the water running.
Wi-Fi worked about 85% of the time, and problems arose either because we were on the 8th floor or because the security booted us out twice a day and we had to log back in. In the grand scheme of things, not a huge deal. The AC worked great the entire time, which was a must since it got to almost 80 degrees one of our days.
Breakfast was unremarkable but OK if you need a quick bite to eat, plus it was included in our booking. There are so many other restaurants and cafes in Montreal to choose from!
Oh, and parking is $17/day through the hotel, but a little cheaper, $12/day on the weekends, at the public library (Bibliotheque) about 2 blocks away.
All in all, you get what you pay for and you can get a pretty good idea of the hotel and area if you scope it out on Google Maps. For what we paid, and having stayed in hotels of similar price range in this area on all our previous trips, this was a pretty good find.
