  • I am an extremely loyal Starwood guest, so I was extremely disappointed to find the brand that I've embraced for over 10 years now has a hotel in it's chain that is lacking in customer service. Friday night, the DJ blasted music from XYZ lounge outside until 3am, which was all I could hear in my room. If you want a quiet hotel, this is definitely not it. I could live with that though, and put in ear plugs and took a melatonin. Saturday was when our real challenges began. What I can't live with are two other things that unfortunately happened to the wedding party. First, when one of the bridesmaids went to check into her room after the wedding (there wasn't time before due to picture taking), they were oversold and didn't have a room for her. To find out at 11pm that you have nowhere to stay in downtown Cleveland is such a frightening thought! She had to bunk up with a friend, three people to a king bed. Then - the security guard in the lobby, his name was Dominick, was a complete and utter jerk. I've stayed at Aloft hotels before where they were okay with you bringing your own beer to the lobby, but this hotel was not one - which is completely understandable and fine. Once Dominick told us that, we moved our cooler upstairs from the wedding and disposed of our beers and purchased liquor from the bar. Then, we ordered pizza, which is something that the front desk told us was just fine. Dominick didn't agree. He scolded us for eating pizza in the lobby, saying it wasn't allowed. Lastly, when the bar closed at 2am, he forced us to go to our rooms - even though we wanted to continue talking with friends we hadn't seen in years. We weren't rowdy, we weren't loud, there were three of us with sleeping spouses/partners in the rooms that we didn't want to disturb, so we want a place to talk. Mind you, the DJ blasts music in the lobby and outside patio area until at least 3am - but the three of us quietly talking was banned from the lobby. Dominick was so aggressive about us going to our rooms, that we finally just went outside on the street and sat and talked, since it was the only place we apparently had the right to. If I were the management staff of this Aloft, I would immediately put Dominick on performance review and start a new process that prohibits overbooking. Having a reservation means just that - you have a reservation.
