Man! I am gonna sound like a spoiled brat here. Whining about an ultra high end market in North Scottsdale! But if anything, this is a HUGE complement for my AJ's at FLW and Thompson Peak near my home.
I love the grill for lunch. It's always a pleasure and the food is great. But today I tried this AJ's since I was close. And the middle aged guy with the hat behind the grill was a grade A (j's), prick. He had zero desire to make eye contact or be personable. It was obvious that he was too good to be making our meals for us. In fact, the customer in front of me in line got so fed up after 10 minutes that he got a sushi roll inside and skipped this jerk.
This cook was so deep in thought with whatever burger had been ordered 15 minutes ahead of me getting in line that he just hung out by that grill...finally calling for some help.
So a nice girl comes out and took my order. I then waited and finally heard our overworked short order cook rattle off my name in no direction at all. I tried to gain eye contact...if for no other reason then to see if I could, but it was wasted. He didn't care. I said "Thank you" directly at him and proceeded to watch Mr. Bigshot deliberately ignore me.
I sat down and recognized that unlike Theresa and Stephanie would do at my Aj's, my order was wrong. This guy didn't care what was written down. He was making this his way and I was darned lucky to have anything at all.
Love Theresa and Stephanie! They do it right. Sure, its a thankless job. Until somebody thanks them. Which is what most of us do every time that we see them and enjoy the meals they prepare.
Why do we go to AJ's? That's the question. It's certainly not the pricing. We know that. It's as high as you're going to find out here. But we go anyways. Because we get treated like gold. And we walk away feeling good about our relationship with the store.
Unless you order lunch from this guy. He's not part of the team. He obviously thinks that he's too good to be doing what he's doing. Why don't you prove to him that he's right and cut him loose? I'm not ordering lunch from him again.
