| - We became acquainted with Cartwrights when we first moved to Phoenix and stumbled upon their History dinners. This was our first trip back under the new ownership and we were not disappointed. Our server (Chris) was friendly, observant and checked back on us without being intrusive. Having several dietary restrictions makes me a difficult diner, but Chris was not only knowledgeable but double checked and even wrote the nut restriction on the order. My husband ordered the wild game stroganoff which was an extremely ample portion. (He couldn't finish!). It was very hearty with a nice blend of flavors. I don't usually order fish in AZ, mainly because I haven't had a lot of well-cooked seafood. However, the Ling cod and scallop entree called to me and I was definitely not disappointed. The fish and scallops were cooked perfectly, but I was equally impressed with the accompaniments. So often, vegetables seem just to be an afterthought, but not in this case. This dish was good--really good, and considering the low lighting in the restaurant, I briefly considered holding up my napkin and licking the plate. Let's not forget the fabulous bread, easily my downfall when the basket sits on the table while you wait for your entree. We finished off by sharing the mesquite chocolate cake. (Actually, I didn't share much of it). There was no particular occasion for our visit but it was a very memorable night.
