| - I felt like being super depressed today (6/3/14) so I decided to take my mom to Lake Las Vegas. My parents have lived here longer than I have, yet have never been here. I don't think I can blame them though as it's a pretty far drive out from everything.
Everything is closed. GHOST TOWN. Even the casino is closed. The restaurants are closed. The ones that aren't closed, there is no possible way that they're turning over food for it to not spoil.
Back in October I looked at renting out an apartment here, but for $20 more, I got 350 extra square feet and quick access to the 215 and 15. Here - it's a good 40 minute drive to The Strip - not worth it for me.
My mom kept saying how, "clearly somebody just got a loan and did absolutely zero research into locations before they built this place. Nobody is going to drive out this far." This ghost town oasis is located off of a rough, run down area of Henderson lined by dilapidated homes and trailers. Oh, and a rehab facility. Can't forget that one.
She said it looks like somebody tried to plunk down a golf course on the moon - if you've seen the surrounding area, you know her description isn't far off. There were workmen everywhere to which she said, "What are they building here besides cutting boards to cover up the windows of these shuttered businesses?" Probably nothing, other than cutting those boards.
I felt terrible for some bathing suit clad Aussie tourists who were clearly pissed off that there was not a single restaurant open for business. Imagine flying half way around the world to Vegas, looking at the awesome pictures of LLV, booking a room here and then finding out there's not a single place you can eat unless you want a taxi to drive you to Long John Silver's fast food place in front of the Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. I'd be pissed off too.
If you're a tourist, do not, I repeat, DO NOT come here. You'll be stranded in a mid-2000's faux Italian ghost town with nothing at all to do.
