I fell in love with the Mesa Dirty Drummer on Country Club about 20 years back. When a friend moved to Avondale the 44th & Oak location became our central meeting spot and eatery.
Same great prices. The Country Club location has better food quality than 44th. Still good, but while Country Club knocks it out of the park, 44th makes it almost to 3rd then runs back to 2nd.
A little history: for a while I had trouble with a specific cook at 44th named Walt. This is years ago, he's gone now... I think. But time and time again he would overcook my medium burger to well done. It was killin' me. It got to the point that I would ask if Walt is at the grill. If he was I would ask for rare and request the server really stay on him about it. Because Walt would cook the hell out of a Rare burger too.
This Drummer is a bit upscale from the Country Club location and about half again the size. The burgers are good and the service is feel-good personable here too. You're in for tasty food and a great time.
I get the Cheese Drummer with Bacon. They put a little port wine on the meat during the cooking process. It really make a difference. Also, we typically share a side of crisp tasty fries and usually some wings.
Check out me review of the Country Club location if you make over to the East side.
