TLDR: AYCE (90 minute time limit) and lunch specials available; yelp check-in deal; hit-or-miss service
My friend and I like to venture over to Umiya when we're looking for a decent meal. They have the standard AYCE prices with dinner specials available such as salmon kama or a specialty appetizer item. Their lunch specials are pretty decent and filling if you're looking for something to take home or if you just want an entree. We like to check-in and get a free soda or iced green tea (the real deal and not the Coca-Cola one).
One thing that this location offers is the super white tuna or ono. I've been noticing that some restaurants are choosing not to carry this item, due to a supplier issue, but I'm happy to enjoy it at this location. Is it true super white? Who knows, but it sure tastes like it. They have interesting dessert-style specialty rolls which contain fruit and eel sauce. If you're getting AYCE, you might as well split a half roll.
We've come here a couple of times and it's safe to say that service depends on the moon and the stars, the Dow Jones, or the shape of the clouds because I don't get it. Whether busy or slow, the service can be super quick or patiently long and I'm just talking about placing an order, not to receive the food. I often have to ask for refills and usually have to flag someone down to get something. Myabe this speaks for the lack of adequate staffing. Who knows? Either way the food is pretty good.
Note: They're offering free mugs for posting of reviews. Will this lead to an oversampling of 5-star reviews? Probably. Did I get a cup for this? Not yet, but who doesn't want a free cup?
