  • Wow. Can we talk about Meat and Potatoes for a second? I went here for the first time last night (finally, I know, stop judging me). I had a mouthgasm. Simple as that. Absolutely love the ambiance of the place - dark colors, dim lighting, jazzy music... it was just what we were looking for. The feel of this place is classy, but not uptight. The service was friendly, expedient, and professional - to the level of a five star restaurant, while still putting out a casual, relaxed vibe. I started off with a "Turn the Beet Around" ...yes the song kept popping into my head throughout dinner, and yes I did dance in my chair while sitting. I love anything spicy so it was already looking up. Reposado, lime, orange liqueur, jalapeño, and beet syrup. It was quite an unusual winning combination. Smash together, fruity/spicy/a bit of savory, add tequila - and it just popped. Next was the duck liver pâté. At first the sweetness of the sauternes jelly on top cuts through the more savory flavor of the duck, but it rounds out as you eat it, and has a nice savory finish. Its perfectly paired with a simple grilled bread (to which they gladly brought a refill). Shortly after, came out the wild mushroom risotto. It was definitely good, the mushrooms were tasty, but I'm having trouble remembering details because of what came next!....... The roasted chicken! It definitely stole the show, and I'm not afraid to say, it's probably the best thing I've eaten this year. Served beside their yukon gold potatoes, adorned with roasted tomatoes, olives, and pine nuts, laid on a saffron butter sauce, and topped with fennel. This dish was clearly crafted by a true culinary artist. Besides the chicken being perfectly cooked and juicy, the way the flavors came together was just something I had never tasted before, and we just kind of sat there in awe/bliss until it was all gone. I couldn't believe that we had drinks, appetizers, and dinner for two, at this quality for only $77. Last week I paid almost $200 for worse service and mediocre food at another place downtown. I must get back here asap.... I need that brunch in my life. See you soon!
