| - Is it dorky to say I feel cool eating here? Well, I guess the dork cat is outta the bag because that's what I am saying: I feel cool eating here. It is poolside dining at its finest, most stylish, and most sinfully sweet. (And, I haven't even tried the desserts!)
I have been here on two occasions, and neither occasion was a full-on sit down dinner, but rather a hang with peeps enjoying some light bites. I will admit that this type of dining does not demand a high level of service, but the bartender, who served as our waiter, was friendly and knowledgeable. He made several recommendations that were all spot on. Because of that, last night our light bites transformed into a full meal, as we couldn't resist ordering more of some of our favorite things!
What are a few of our favorite things?
1. Crispy Sesame Rice: A must! The perfect bar food bite (if you like spicy tuna). It is a delectable marriage between spicy tuna and a mini, salty rice crispy treat. The flavor is crave worthy, as I am craving it right now. We ordered 3 rounds of these bad, by which I mean good, mamas.
2. Edamame: Forget what your Japanese mama told you cuz this stuff blew my edamame expectation outta the water. It is wok charred. Translation: A brilliant grilled flavor infused into every tasty little pod.
3. Spinach Pizza: Yum-azing. Apparently, Mr. Simon got his cooking start in the pizza world, so he takes his pie very seriously. It shows. The crust was the perfect chewy/crispy combo, and the boursin cheese on top was tempting me to lick that stuff right off.
4. Calamari: Some places don't respect calamari. It has become like the potato skin for foodies, but not here. Nice, thick rings, perfectly battered with a flavor that survives the fry.
As far as those four items go, the flavors were top notch. Nothing made my palette angry, and despite the creativity, I never felt that something sacrificed taste for show. Again, I have not experienced a full sit down meal here, but for me, it is definitely now at the top of my list for a round of drinks and nibbles at a hip hang.
Useful notes: They have sushi happy hour every day from 4-7pm. And all day, every day locals can enjoy $4 beer, $6 well drinks, and $7 glasses of wine. That is a screaming deal for such a swank establishment.
