  • I have 3 poms, which have extremely high standards in regards to their tastes, sensitive tummies, and attention (yes, their high-maintenance times 3). Additionally, I was very apprehensive about leaving them for the first time because they require so much. I liked that SHPR offered wall-enclosed suites versus just metal-fenced off quarters so that one of my poms, who is very skittish, would not feel overwhelmed. I do admit the staff dragged their feet a little when I requested to tour the whole facility, and say good-bye to my pups (who were whisked away outside when I came in) on account that they would be sad. Their leaving my care, of course their going to be sad; however, saying good-bye isn't going to devastate them all of a sudden and most parents like to have a final good-bye before they leave. Needless, to say they honored these two requests, but it did require pushing on my part (Their my kids, I'm going to get my way). A simple service that should be offered with every drop-off: Would you like to see where they will be staying? Would you like to say good-bye? Other than the 2 requests at drop-off which the staff was slow to respond to, the staff was very friendly and understanding of my poms' special needs. Seeing that my puppies have very sensitive tummies, I carefully packaged all their meals and treats so as not to have any food issues and reviewed their food restrictions not only at the time of booking but at drop-off. Any parent with dogs who are food sensitive, the burden falls to you to hammer it into the staff that your dogs has food restrictions and to provide food for the staff so it is not an issue. I left my puppies over New Years, so they were required to have an exit bath so they came back clean and little fluff balls. They were super happy and stomach-issue free, I even got pictures of them playing outside. Overall, the one small issue at drop-off with customer service was minor and easily fixed with a little training (I work in customer service, I'm going to harp on it a little...) and my high-maintenance pups were happy and healthy, which are all good things to me. Their pricing was not an issue, dogs are expensive (particularly poms), especially sick poms - so the fact that my super sensitive poms came back healthy is a HUGE plus! SHPR is nowhere near, where I live (in fact out of the way), but if they keep my poms happy, that is all that matters. I will use them again, and try to get a room with an internet cam (I really like the idea of the internet cam and having a visual check-up on them).
