| - Fan Expo Toronto is a celebration of things related to Movies (Sci-Fi, Horror, Animation), Comics, Anime, Cosplay and Toys held during the Labour Day weekend. It's goes from Thursday to Sunday at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. It's perfect for my geeky side to shine! Be prepared to walk a lot and be surrounded by a lot of people as it is held in both the North and South buildings.
However, I don't partake in the celebrities package for autographs and photo ops or the Cosplay that is very much into display during the weekend. My main reason for attending Fan Expo has to do with my love for the Funko POP figures. My daughter and I come here to complete our collection or to acquire hard to find figures.
This review is only about this aspect of Fan Expo. We usually only come for the last day (Sunday) which by that time, most of the popular or hard to find figures might be long gone. This year was the figure for Pennywise from the new movie "It". The only one left was the discontinued Chase figure that was selling for over $200. So if you are not looking for any specific figures, Sunday, might be the best time to talk to the vendors and negotiate the prices with them. I found that they are more open to do that on this day and near closing time (5pm). There are numerous vendors for these figures in both the North and South buildings so patience and a good walking shoes are required.
This event is all about money. Things are not cheap especially those autographs and photos packages for celebrities. The figures are the same too as some vendors charge ridiculous prices for the Chase or hard to find figures. See if you can negotiate with them to lower the prices, the worst thing they can say is no.
Overall, is an enjoyable experience for my daughter and I and we will be coming back again next year.
