| - To start, I use Yelp mostly as a tool to find great restaurants and I hardly find reviews. This is my first review to ensure that no one else rents from this complex.
My two roommates and I moved into this complex last year because of the space and the rent. The location was decent and, despite the fact that the outside needed some updating, there was a lot of room. Everyone who worked in the leasing office was very friendly and very professional. They were quick to accomodate anything as far as new keys, leasing information, etc. All of our pleasant thoughts about moving into the space evaporated during our farcical year long stay.
The air conditioning unit seemed to be a constant source of frustration that was always band-aided by the maintenance worker who would take about a week or so to visit the problem. Drainage in the upstairs bathroom was clogged - a problem that would not be solved by the slow to respond maintenance but by ourselves. Our doorbell was broken upon move-in and when a request was placed to fix it, it seemed that the request was forgotten (probably under a stack of similar requests in the 'No Fucks Given' pile).
Anytime there was rapid response was for fees that were "cosmetic" and arbitrary. One of our roommates was a smoker and left a few of his butts on the back porch after management decided to knock out everyone's fenced in areas (more on that later). Within a day, we received a letter about cleaning them up or facing a fine. Another one of my roommates who worked the night shift used a heavy shade to block his window. Within about two days of doing this, we were hit with another letter to either change this or face a penalty.
The constant theme is that you should expect nothing of them and they should expect everything of you (the resident). Upon moveout, we were charged $70 for cleaning fees, etc. That is fair and reasonable given that I had heard horror stories of much worse. I received that bill on a Friday but was called on the next Tuesday to say that they needed to collect or the debt would be sent to a credit bureau. Cool cool cool cool cool cool!
Randolph Park Apartments does want you to know however that they are trying to keep up with a growing neighborhood by renovating! They knocked out all of the fenced porches for new ones (a fix that all residents were told would be completed in a month or two) and replacing the old panels on the Tudor style of the townhouses. They tried so hard on the first go around that I think it wiped them out! Thus the majority of time we were there, the front porch we had within the first month was gone and everyone had alternating colored panels. Man, what a funky little spot!
Before we moved out, we were given the option to renew. The rent jumped from our $930 to about $1,332 for a three bedroom townhouse. $1,332 seems like a steal given the prices around the Cotswold area. However, it's not worth the headache, the eye sore and the brain aneurysm you will likely get from reading that you will be charged a fee for blocking out the light of a street lamp that shines directly into your bedroom window.
