  • East Village revitalization, yo! At the back of a really awkward parking lot you will find Village Ice Cream. What else will you find near by? A law office, construction and the tracks. VIC itself is really pretty, with a chalkboard menu, and pale wood beams and benches. This place would be ideal in summer, cause you could hang out in that parking lot, slurping back your frozen milk treat, or sit along VIC's patio. But inside, there are only a couple of benches, and the way it is laid out looks like there would be more to the right of the wall, but no. That's it. It will also probably be insane here in summer and this is why. I was way-laid entering VIC as 3 people I knew were exiting. We stood outside and awkwardly chatted and as we did so a group of 8 people piled out of I swear it was one car and went on in. We said our goodbyes and tried to get in the front door, but were unable to as this group of 8 stood dumbfounded by the menu and would not take a step closer to the counter. They then stood there for another 5 mins asking to sample every flavour. "Oohh what's cardamon? Can I try that. Thanks. Ooohh coconut, can I try that? Oh vanilla, special, can I try that?" We were the only people behind them in line, so I can not FATHOM how backlogged this gets by idiots wanting to try every flavour. Finally the guy serving, saw we were not with this gaggle of fooligans and asked us if we wanted to order. I was so fed up with their rampant sampling we just ordered. We got a scoop of maple pecan and salted caramel on waffle cones. The cones were really nice, and if you are a Friend of CJSW, you get your cone for free! Also, eco friendly people! Eat the cone instead of using a bowl and plastic spoon. The ice cream itself... seriously. It was only ok. The maple pecan tasted like Peter's Drive In ice cream and if I hadn't been swapping cones I would not have been able to eat just the salted caramel. If you don't want to eat your ice cream on the spot, they also have a freezer where you can buy pints of their flavours. I want to come back, in warmer weather, not January, and I will probably kill some other patron in the process, but I need some ice cream redemption.
