  • This hike will get you good if you are either out of shape/haven't used any of your muscles in a long time. I went with about 10 of my friends. This was the 2nd time I had gone on this hike. It is so worth the difficulty! In total it took us about two hours to get to the Colorado river and two hours back at a light jog. This was without resting up while at the river: big mistake. All of us were in so much pain the next day in every muscle in our bodies. I would recommend bringing a light jacket. My boyfriend and I are all about adventure. So, at the end instead of sitting, eating, and taking pictures... we jumped into the river which was super cold of course. On the way back the temperature shock really hit us and we had to use our towels to try and keep warm. There are ropes that you can use to help you down and over boulders and large drops. These are really nice and helpful but you have to use your muscles to use the ropes the best way you can. Wear shoes that you're okay with getting wet. You will be walking in water the closer you get to the river. Bring a lot of water. Whether it is cold or hot out, bring more water than you think you need. They have a cooler closer to a mile in that allows people to leave left over water in, just in case. However, if you bring your own water or a camelbak you should be good. Do some stretches before you start. This is a very strenuous hike. Bring a first aid kit. Once one of our friends was in the water, she slipped and had a rock lodged into the bone in her leg. Good thing we had a first aid kit! Get all of the way to the end. If you walk into the water, where the hot springs water and the Colorado River mix there is a rock where you can climb and see the river and the new bridge they built for the highway that bypasses the Hoover Dam. It's a really cool view.
