  • A must-see for any foodie in Cleveland. The Market is actually split into two buildings separated by a smelly - erm, earthy? - outdoor aisle (due to the leftover produce and garbage kept here), one long hall for produce and one quadrangle housing all manner of local goodies. By goodies, I mean all shapes and sizes of meat, seafood, spices, pasta, pastries, dairy, bread... Shall I continue? The goodie building is remarkable in and of itself - if you get a chance to go to the second floor balcony and get a bird's eye view of the spectacle. It can be busy especially in the late morning, but squeezing past enthralled throngs of shoppers is part of the charm. I'm particularly a huge fan of the dairy stands since the butter and Greek yogurt is fresh beyond belief, but I would definitely take the time to stroll through the aisles and sample some breads, pastries, and perhaps pick up a gyro or sausage sandwich for lunch. As for the produce - I actually avoid walking too long through it because it's turned into a hawker's bazaar of shop owners insisting that they have the avocados you're looking for. Even if you're clearly shopping for bananas and peaches. I stifle the temptation to stop and take the fruit samples because I don't want the expected barrage of sales pitches. The produce quality overall is kinda iffy and pretty ripe (so do as Cara L. suggests and consume quickly), although there are a few stores that don't try to push their goods on you and let you browse in peace. The prices are comparable to grocery stores with more selection though, and if you go later in the day, chances are that you can get a discount! Parking is a little difficult to find your first time around, but there are two fair-sized lots just a few hundred yards away. The car situation is madness on a Saturday morning, but come during the weekday or afternoon and you should have no trouble. Nearly all of the vendors accept cards now, but bring cash if you want Steve's Gyros! And bring a reusable tote bag to transport your foodie haul. :)
