  • This is what a local ice cream (or gelato) shop should really be. It's a pretty nondescript place in a rather nondescript strip mall in Northeast Mesa. They don't charge an arm and a leg for the gelato. And most important of all, this stuff is good! Gelato Dolce Vita is connected to a little Italian market that sells a number of Italian food products like pasta, olives, and cured meats. The market also serves some tasty dishes. I've only eaten there once, but the pasta dish was delicious (albeit somewhat small for my liking). Back to the gelato... The flavor selection isn't enormous, but they've got all the important stuff. There are two cases of flavors. The one facing the front of the store includes most of the richer flavors and involve lots of chocolate and such. The second case has a number of sorbets, mostly of the fruity variety, but including a nice chocolate sorbet. The sorbets are a great option for those people with dairy and egg allergies, and flavors are identified as being allergy-friendly according to a color coding system that is on the counter. I've been avoiding dairy and eggs for a few months now, so this place is a bit of a godsend, because I miss my ice cream...a LOT. During my last trip, I had a combination of chocolate and strawberry sorbets. Oh goodness, it was tasty! I often think of sorbets as being somewhat icy in texture, and I avoid them for that very reason, but neither of these was anything of the sort. The chocolate was very rich, and the strawberry was very fresh--I was even picking out a few seeds from my teeth. The staff is always friendly, and you can get a punch card to get a free gelato for every 10 that you purchase. Once you come here, you'll make use of that card, so remember to get one!
