| - I've been going here for many, many moons. This place was great for awhile, then it got a little shady (I watched a barista do some pretty gnarly stuff foodhandling-wise, not malicious but obviously the result of poor or no training), and now I'm a pretty big fan again. I gave it another try after staying away for awhile and I'm pleased I came back.
The drinks are good - yeah, they're not cheap, but the quality justifies the prices IMO. Food is good but a bit pricey for what you get. An $8 sandwich should come with some chips or fruit or something and the prep is often inconsistent. The presentation (wooden boards) is cool. If I get hungry while I'm there I'm generally satisfied but if I can wait til I leave I will.
Pros: Vegan options (they even have a raw vegan brownie and truffle at times), alternative milks (coconut, hemp, cashew, almond, soy), freshly made gourmet chocolates (apparently the owner is learning the craft, which is pretty awesome IMO), good quality coffee (the coffee actually tastes yummy, not burnt like SOME places...), nice mix of people, friendly vibe, nice employees, local and not chain/huge coffee conglomerate
Cons: Seating is ragingly uncomfortable and the internet is only accessible via 4-hour codes you get by request after you've purchased something (this policy seems to change all the time though - sometimes there are codes, sometimes there aren't). Clearly the owner doesn't like squatters, which is and understandable concern but still funny since there are always people hanging out for hours anyways, they're just smoking hookah instead of staring at their laptops. Oh, and the music is borderline awful at times. Setting a vibe is one thing; earsplitting EDM is not. If I wanted to be at a club, I'd go to one. Used to have actually coffee cups and plates, now most stuff comes out in paper to-go cups and food containers. It's also really crowded sometimes but that's good for Madhouse, just not so great when you get there late and there's nary a stool to be had
Overall, I recommend it, even if I want to say I don't so people like you will stay out of my seat. :D
