| - I had a friend in town and wanted to take him to a restaurant I know is unique, has a decent atmosphere and has great food. Well, I found out on Friday night that BLD is not one of these places! We had possibly the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant...our waitress (Anna) was absolutely horrible!
Because there were 10 of us for dinner, we called ahead and the hostess had a table ready and waiting for us by the time we got there. It was busy...so without a reservation, it was great to have her set aside a large table for us. However, our positive experience went south very quickly.
Our waitress came up and asked if we wanted something to drink. My friend asked if they had any Makers Mark. The waitress did not know and said she would check, but I was reading the cocktail menu and noticed a mixed drink that had Makers Mark. So he went ahead and ordered a Makers Mark and the rest of the table ordered their drinks. Guess what showed up along with the rest of our drinks, the cocktail that has Makers Mark in it...this was just the start.
After returning the drink we did not order, we started making decisions on dinner. I knew I shouldn't ask her any questions about the menu, but I couldn't help myself. The first question I asked was, "How is the special tonight?". Her response, "I am not sure about tonight, but our specials are usually a mess!". So my friend asks, "How is the meatloaf?". She said, "I am not sure, but is it usually REALLY salty!". I would think the management of this restaurant would highly discourage any of their employees to respond about their menu items in this manner!
So we all order our food and it comes out in a reasonable amount of time. One of the dishes came out and it was just not good. Because our waitress was nowhere to be found, I grabbed the hostess and she got the manager for us. He was nice and said, "What would you like instead of your current meal?". Our friend chose the fried chicken and it came back to the table fairly quickly. I also asked for some crushed red pepper for my pasta. The waitress said they did not have any crushed red pepper, but the other server that was bringing us our food went into the kitchen and grabbed some for our table. I showed the waitress what the crushed red pepper looked like and her response was, "Oh...I thought you were talking about..." and she then jestured with her index finger and pointed to her head. That stopped everyone at our table...it just got quiet. What does that mean??? We were all speechless!
Then when it came time for our bill, remember how the manager asked my friend what he wanted in place of the first dish he ordered? Well, it just so happened the replacement dish was $2.00 more on the menu. So she removed the original and put the new item on the bill...for an extra $2.00!!! In my experience from working at restaurants and by dining in several, you remove the meal completely from the bill. Instead she charged us for the more expensive item and her response when I questioned her was, "I didn't know what you wanted to do..."
The manager never came back over to check on us after the issue with the first dish and when I asked for the meal to be removed, they just removed the extra $2.00 it cost for the different meal. I looked out for the manager and he was laughing it up at the bar with what looked like some regular customers. There was no follow up or attention paid to the table that got stuck with the waitress that was clearly not qualified to work at any restaurant!
It will be very difficult for us to go back to this restaurant. We go here frequently for breakfast and have always enjoyed the food. There are a few good folks that work there, but service is spotty at best.
This was a very disappointing visit and I was embarassed to take a friend from out of town to what we thought was a good restaurant!
