With all the hype around BRGR and them having a dedicated spot in PNC Park, my girlfriend and I wanted to stop by as she was having a friend visit from out of town and this seemed like a good spot. Such a mediocre experience.
Parking:
-Zero parking in the immediate area as there are typically no spots on the street as there are many businesses around Highland St. and Penn Circle that compete for parking. Valet is available but this type of dining doesn't merit valet.
Hostess:
-The entrance is nice enough but finding a table can be tricky, I smartly used the No Wait app (also used by Burgatory) to skip the lines and ensure a table was ready. I arrived with "1 party ahead of you in line" status on the app. When called to the hostess podium I was told we could sit at a high-top table at the bar or go upstairs and look for seating. The bar is no place for a nice dinner so we went upstairs and felt the air conditioning slowly taper off to nothing. Arriving on the rooftop area there was no airflow whatsoever on a hot and humid day. I went back downstairs to ask if we could get a regular table as it was intensely hot upstairs. Surprise surprise a table was ready. I can't imagine how some guests were eating upstairs, the AC on the first floor was appropriate for the weather.
Service:
Our waiter clearly had better days, maybe he was upset he was working during the Pen's Stanley Cup game or was just over the day in general but his service was unimpressive. Does anyone have customer service skills anymore?
Food:
The food was the best part of the experience which is a positive but still can't save a poor experience and two star review. I had the salmon burger which was decent but a little dry. The tater tots I ordered as a side were the best part of the meal which is a little disappointing. My girlfriend ordered fries with the famed truffle cheese wiz. I didn't care for it but I'll chalk it up to possibly not liking truffles.
Definitely won't be going back to BRGR, go next door to Spoon or across the street to Plum Pan Asia and get some much higher quality food.
