  • In October of 2016, I was driving my 2004 Mercury Monterey van across the country from Michigan to California with a planned stop in Las Vegas. I started getting the dreaded Transaxle Warning light in the I-15 Arizona mountain passes along with some loud bangs when it was put in drive. We limped the van to Vegas and found this AAMCO shop using Yelp. It was the BEST decision! The crew at this AAMCO shop is awesome! These guys are very honest. I told them the about the warning light problem and noises. They checked the error codes and determined that the torque converter was going bad...on a transmission with over 309,000 miles on it. They could have easily pushed a new transmission on us and we would have not questioned it due to the high mileage on the old one. Instead of taking advantage of us, they told me to keep it out of overdrive in the mountains and the van should make it fine to California. How cool is that?! I decided to have them install a rebuilt transmission anyways since we were on a family vacation with plans to spend the week in Vegas where it is easy to get around without a vehicle for a few days. They quoted me $2531.71 for the job with a turnaround time of 2 days. They delivered on time with great communication throughout the process. They also had to do a lot of extra work on my van that was not included in the original quote, including replacing several hundred dollars worth of extra parts that had rusted beyond repair. They still honored their original cost quote! I have since driven the van for six months, putting several thousand trouble-free miles on the rebuilt transmission. I cannot thank Scott Harvey and his AAMCO staff enough for their honest, high-quality work and customer service. I wish all auto shops were this awesome!
