  • In summary - Le Club Chasse et PĂȘche delivers in contemporary upscale French cuisine! Set in the Old Port in a robust old stone building with no signs and no windows, this place isn't easy to find. Standing in front of it, you almost wonder if there is actually any sign of life inside. However, once you step inside, you immediately feel like you've just joined an exclusive yet very lively sort of men's club. Low ceilings and leather trimmings, you'd almost expect the hostess to hand you a glass of whiskey and a box of cigars. However, she instead gracefully hands you a menu where, as the name of the restaurant suggests, meat and fish are the star. Reading along the menu, you get a sense that dishes are imaginative as they pair french classics with modern ingredients. We started our experience with an appetizer of boar and lobster ravioli. The boar was delicious as it had crispy skin and perfectly rendered fat. The lobster was very rich in flavour but more ravioli than lobster. We followed with the piglet risotto topped with shavings of foie gras. The description in itself says it all. It was richness on top of richness but worth every minute spent on the treadmill as the flavours just exploded in your mouth. Apparently this dish has been on their menu since the opening, they are unable to take it off as it's just that good! For mains we opted for the duck and the venison. Again very creative dishes as both proteins were prepared two ways. The duck was served as a magret and as a duck heart salad while the venison was served as a tenderloin as well as a 'pulled pork style' shredded venison. Both dishes were beautifully executed, perfectly cooked and very tasty. However, they were not the best duck or venison we've ever had. The duck had a somewhat teriyaki flair and the shredded venison had a bit too much bbq sauce to fully appreciate the meat. As for the service, it was very professional but lacked that spark that in our minds would have made it exceptional. Overall, this is a solid place to impress a date or anyone worth impressing. Although you probably won't have a mind blowing foodie experience, you can definitely expect to have consistently delicious food served in a intimate and exclusive 'club like' setting.
