| - I'm not sure if I came here on an off night or what, but I wasn't blown away by Corkscrew. If half stars were available this would be a solid 2.5, but I really liked my wine (after it cooled off), so 3 stars it is.
I don't venture up to Birkdale very often, but since I was in the area, hubs and were looking to grab a quite glass of wine and appetizer. Things to note - I like wine. I like cheese. I generally like all wine bars. Here's how Cokscrew panned out for me:
The Good: A nice selection of interesting wines for affordable prices. It also looked like the had some great specials during the weekdays for beer, bottles of wine, flights, etc. The appetizers are pretty generous...our red wine cheese plate had hefty portions of each of the three cheeses for $7.50.
The Meh: Service wasn't stellar here. I asked for some recommendations and the server didn't seem to interested in offering any. We'll call it uninspired service. My meritage came out super warm....like 75 degrees warm. I had to let it cool off a bit.
The Bad: We were never given any water, silverware or napkins. The cheese plate came out on a black plastic plate, white plastic knife and a handful of papertowel-esque napkins. I felt like I was in the airport. I don't necessarily need top notch presentation, but this looked and felt silly.
Corkscrew - I wanted to like you. Maybe invest in some cheese boards, some napkins and encourage your staff to respond to your customers? Not sure I'll be back...
