| - We came here with some friends who are timeshare owners. The Desert Rose Resort is a little off the strip behind the Hooters Hotel & Casino, but not terribly far.
We had an early flight so after getting our luggage and rental car, we were at the resort at 9 am. When my friend attempted to check in, the front desk employee Dawson stated that there were not any 2 bedroom condos available at the moment. We kind of figured that, but we thought we'd give checking in a try. My friend then asks him is she needed to call back to see when a room was ready. Well, Dawson continues to hem and haw about how check out is at noon and he can guarantee check in at 4p. I finally got annoyed enough to get out of my chair and butt into the conversation. I used to be a front desk supervisor at a large hotel and conference center and while I have patience for front desk employees, I also have a short straw when I feel that you're not giving customer service.
I butt in and ask "Well, can't we just pre-checkin? We can give you her number and you can call when the room is ready. Would that be ok??" All the sudden Dawson tells me, "Well I was just about to say that." Really? After 5 min of going through your hotel policies?? I then ask if we could pre-check our luggage so that we're not toting our stuff all around Vegas in a rental car. He said that we could. So, we bring in our suitcases and put them on a luggage cart. My friends wanted to change into shorts, so they opened their suitcases just to get their shorts. The bell hop was obviously annoyed that we were making him wait the couple of minutes to locate the shorts and says to Dawson "How long do I have to wait?" Really?? We are the only people in the lobby.
We came back around 3p and attempted to check back in. The front desk employee helping us made it seem that our room was available for awhile. When we told her we had pre-checked in earlier and were expecting a call that the room was ready, she completely ignored us and continued to check us in. During check in, my friend had to list on their document the full names of all the people staying in the condo (I'll come back to this in a bit).
Because we had a vehicle, we had to go to the concierge desk to get the parking pass, which is where they also try to sell timeshares to the other people (myself and my husband) staying in the condo with my friend who is the timeshare owner. My friend is obviously tired and just let the lady continue with the times that the timeshare presentations were to occur the next day. The lady continues to tell us what was included in the breakfast timeshare presentation and the location of the timeshares on the strip. Now, I'm tired and just want the parking pass, so I simply ask "Oh you're selling Wyndham properties??" She replies yes. Then I ask "And this resort is a Wyndham property correct??" She replies yes. So then I ask "Is the customer service that we experienced at this front desk indicative of how I will be treated at your other property? Because if that's the case, I am definitely NOT interested." She appeared to be shocked by my assessment and asked for us to detail our experience, so we tell her everything that happened. She told us she would look into it and we continued to the room.
When we got to the room, it was nice. The 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo with a pull-out couch was enough room for 5 adults. Our patio overlooked the pool, which wasn't too exciting, but we could hear the artists singing at the Route 91 Country Fest. When we got to our room, the bellhop was in there delivering our luggage. He was a very nice man and my husband asked him if the bellhops share tips. He said no and my husband exclaimed "Oh good." The bellhop asked us why and we told him that the earlier bellhop we dealt with was rude. He then pressed us and we told him about the other bellhop being impatient.
After about 20 min, our phone rings and it was a front desk supervisor asking if everything was ok with our room and asked if we needed anything. I asked for a toothbrush for my friend's sister and extra towels since there were 5 of us. The towels and toothbrush came within 5 minutes. Then, 5 min later, we get another call from the front desk supervisor asking us if we had received our towels and toothbrush. I told her we did and thanked her for it.
Fast forward 3 days. One of our room keys de-magnetized, so my husband decides that while us girls were getting ready, he would take care of the room keys so that all of them would work. He goes to the front desk with his ID and is given grief about trying to get new keys. I understand their adherence to security, however, he was listed on the paperwork as a person staying in the room. The front desk person calls up to our room to confirm him and when my friend says that she listed him on their paperwork, they tell her they were unable to find the paper and want my friend to come down.
