| - I'm a little surprised that nobody has reviewed this place because there aren't a lot of butchers around Markham.
I guess most people buy their meat at supermarkets. I don't know why, it's not as fresh; it's pricy, and not aged. Also, you cannot find certain cuts at the supermarket. I know because I looked high and low for the closest place with certain selection of meat.
Well, I guess my girlfriend and I am quite a snob when it comes to meat. We stumbled upon this place through Google Search to find the closest butcher to our home because St. Lawrence Market and European Quality Meats & Sausages were too far for daily treks.
Just like everyone, we've bought meat from Longo's, Michael-Angelo's, T&T, and Costco. These supermarkets are good but not the greatest. You can definitely taste the difference in the meat. I also noticed the great price for gourmet meat. You get more than what you would at the supermarket.
We've been to this place three times and been served by Guy Carvelli and he always provided excellent service. He always asks the right questions and gave us tips on preparation. With our visits we've ordered roast, AAA steaks, antipastos, and chicken. This business is family owned and is clean and well kept (doesn't smell like meat...if you get my drift). They carry a variety of items like: sauce, cheese, dry goods, marinated meat (Cajun, Jerk, and Season), and antipastos.
As for location, it's quite hidden because it's right behind a house. There is a business sign that can't be missed, unless you're driving over speed limit and might drive right by it. You really can't miss it because you'll drive by all the newly built homes on Woodbine Ave and then a transition of older homes.
However, I am excited to see what Whole Food can offer; it's opening soon at Hwy 7 and East of Warden.
