| - We checked in a little late, so that might be why my partner (and I) and and my friends did not get the adjoining rooms we wanted, but at least we got the non-smoking rooms we requested. We were on the 3rd floor and DID NOT smell any smoke from other floors (and I'm pretty sensitive) in our rooms or in the hallways. There are cameras on every floor, which I've never noticed in any other hotel, but rather than be invasive, it made us feel safe. (There is nothing sketchy about this hotel and I felt safe at all times.) There are many pros to this place, which are as follows:
Parking ramp is close to the registration doors (ask for your parking pass)
Registration doors are close to the elevators up to the rooms (so there's no major hike from the car to the elevators with your luggage)
Beautiful, historical decor (if you're into that kind of stuff, and I do)
Good restaurants (the 777 has something for everyone and the buffet is consistently good and we've been to the buffet many times over the years even while staying at other hotels)
Our rooms were (fairly) clean and I'm kind of a clean freak, but I tried not to let the dust on top of the TV to bug me.
The first night we had a room with 2 queen beds and the bed was super firm (I like a softer bed), but when we got the King bed we requested for the other two nights, the King bed was nice and comfortable, so request a room change if the bed is unbearable.
Since there is a walkway to the California, it is nice in colder or warmer temps to have the option to change casinos without having to go outside.
Both the Main Street Station and the Cal cater to islanders and their Mahalo/Aloha spirit is so nice even if you're not from Hawaii.
We had rooftop HVAC/Heat/Vent units outside our windows, but we weren't there for the view. Some of the rooms have a great view. As far as noise, we just heard the white noise of the rooftop units, no traffic noise and best of all, NO MUSIC noise (which has been a problem at other downtown Vegas hotels for me)
Cons: Slow-ish elevators
No coffee pot, but I read in other reviews they will bring you one if you request one (or you can bring your own, I suppose)
There are no curtains, but plantation shades on the windows, so bring an sleep mask if you're light sensitive
No pool or spa (which in November was not a big deal, but it would affect whether we stayed there during warmer months). The Cal has a pool the 2 properties share, but it is not much.
Finally, don't let the fact it is a 1 1/2 blocks from Fremont sway you. By the time you walk from your hotel tower, through a hotel casino and out to Fremont street, it would take you the same amount of time.
