| - I try to be fair non my reviews I really do. It takes A LOT for me to trash an establishment but for a place that supposedly should be a "classic throwback to old Vegas" that is making money hand over fist the Flamingo should be shot and stuffed. This place should have been imploded with the old Vegas resorts like the Dunes and the Sahara! There is only three reasons this place gets even ONE star...location, location, location. Having said that I will say we did REALLY enjoy Piff the Magic Dragon show and the staff seems to know their hotel is a joke and try and compensate by being really helpful and friendly. Here is why we were as disappointed as we were:
1. My wife was checking in, when a man tapped her on the shoulder and escorted her randomly to the Diamond Check in. The gal behind the desk was great and said "I can get you on the 26th floor facing the strip, would that work?" Then she said actually I can get us on the 28th (the top floor) so we were stoked about the seemingly random upgrade. Come to find out the music and Strip is so loud it kept us up quite a bit and I can only imagine how loud it would be if we were closer to the street.
2. After traveling all I wanted to do was take a shower. I was met with luke warm water and barely enough water pressure to wet the washcloth. I know they are going through a drought and all, but maybe drain the Bellagio and Flamingo fountain and kick up that pressure and turn up that heater. I had to rush my shower because I felt the water getting colder as I tried to get enough water to even rinse off.
3. To get to our room we had to take the elevators by the "Habitat" doors. To get to the elevators you must run the "Gauntlet"! This was the name my wife and I gave the process of bypassing the time share sharks that try to give you free shows and buffets to sit through a presentation. This would not be an issue as much if they didn't trade people out so much so that when you said no they'd leave you alone. Instead, they frenzy on you every time you come out of the elevator with a new pitch. To counter this my wife and I literally had to exit the elevator separately and meet in the casino since the sharks can only attack when you are in pairs and not when you are single. Little helpful hint...
There were other personal things we didn't like about the hotel but those were preferences. You can't beat the location if you want to stay in walking distance of All the big casino hot spots. At the end of the day, they could have given us a Suite and we would have to second guess our desire to stay there again since they gave us what I think they believed to be one of their best rooms (with it's tiny TV, spitting shower, and broken toilet seat!) Stay away, and if you want a middle of the road casino on the strip, try Bally's or the Linq maybe, because the Flamingo is just terrible.
