  • Restaurant Week, January 2014. I loved the menu that they posted online. Me, Sweetie and 2 friends booked a reservation. I called up and making a reservation was a snap, no problem. I have been to Upstream 2 times B.Y (Before Yelp), and thought it was just OK so it hasn't been on my radar. I'm not a huge fan of crowds and Phillips Place is crowded. I was happy that they offered valet parking so I don't have to deal with parking. The menu was a bit confusing to start since it was their full menu with various upcharges for certain items. Deal is for $30.00 and you could choose an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The waitress was very nice and explained everything and was upfront about the upcharges. So, for example if you wanted an appetizer of the crab cakes it was an additional $4.00. I got it now....."It's a profit deal" (Steve Martin, The Jerk). I started with the Lobster Bisque which was served lukewarm, borderline cold. It wasn't good. The bowl that they served it in was hotter than the soup. Me and my friend sent it back and it was returned just as lukewarm so we forged ahead. It was just OK in my opinion, it didn't have any lobster in it and was creamy enough but I've had better. Maybe they cheapened it for Restaurant week? The Sake Marinated Sea Bass was on my radar from looking online at the menu and in a last minute decision I opted for the flounder. I'm glad I did. So, it was flounder, nicely grilled sitting on top of a black truffle risotto. This was excellent. The fish was nicely prepared and seasoned. The risotto would have made Gordon Ramsey proud. It was probably one of the best risottos I've had, flavorful not watery and the light sauce on top perfectly complimented the fish. Sweetie opted for the Sea Bass for a $12.00 upcharge. She didn't think it was all that great and it was drowned in marinade which was a bit gross. It was flavorful, but frankly a good sea bass should be treated better IMO. I got the cheesecake for dessert which frankly, wasn't all that great. It was clumpy and served with some dry granola or something with some golden raisins. It needed a sauce of some sort. I decided to save the calories and bring it home for my daughter.....she'll eat anything. All in all, it was worth it to go for the entrée. The goal of Restaurant Week IMO is to expose you inexpensively to places you don't generally go to. I'm glad I went back and may try Upstream again soon to see if it's worth the trip. It's been a round for a while and there's probably a good reason.
