Floyd Lamb Park is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. The park is rich in placards describing one of the first settlements in the Las Vegas Valley.
In addition to its historic and educational value, it is a wonderful place for a day at the park. Many families bring picnic baskets. It's a great place for a small family reunion or birthday party. Lots of people also fish.
Bunnies graze in the morning, peacocks sport their tails throughout the day, and geese are everywhere. Be careful, peacocks and geese are mean and goose poop leaves a mess on your running shoes.
There is a charge for entry. That, along with the goose poop and many people who frequent the park are the reasons why I give it at four instead of five stars.
Tip:
--Runners, walkers, and dog walkers can access the park for free if they go in the back way. Enter on Rachel by the retention basin. There is fantastic jogging trail that extends far beyond the basin allowing for miles of training. Horses frequent many of these trails. From the parking lot by the basin to the park is one mile. The trail has covered picnic benches and trash cans, but there is no water until you reach Floyd Lamb State Park. You also have to wait to use the bathroom.
