  • It's been about six months since we've been to The Spot. We were frequent customers to the point where we burned out on it for a while. We woke up craving the Californian breakfast burrito this weekend -- it's quite possibly the best breakfast burrito either my husband or I have ever had. Something's changed in the last six months though, and we knew it as soon as we walked in the front door. The place smelled like dirty fryer oil. We ordered and sat down at the only free table downstairs just as the parties at the other tables finished and left. The cashier disappeared for a while, coming back after another family walked in. The tables remained un bused for another 15 minutes, leaving a VERY pregnant customer to climb the stairs to find a table. As we waited for our food, we noticed the tables were new, and the bright orange plastic chairs were filthy, the backs are covered in black grime from repeated and many hands moving the chairs. As we looked around, we really began to notice the details....the restaurant is so much dirtier than we've ever seen it in the past, what happened? Our food arrived, without the fruit cup it has always come with...the server let us know they no longer offered it (shouldn't the cashier told us this when ordering?), we could have more potatoes (already in the burrito) or Mac and cheese (?). We were really disappointed, and chose the latter just because we already had potatoes. It was all too heavy without the fruit pairing. The server, cook and cashier openly discussed that Mac and cheese wasn't an allowable offering, within earshot, and the server was even confused. The burritos were incredibly rich without the side of fruit to balance, the Mac and cheese was bland and dry, we barely touched our food and took most of it home to share with our dogs. It was so many little things, but overall a poor enough experience that we're inclined not to go back. What's happened to this place, new manager, new owners? Something has changed, not for the better.
