| - Oh, where to begin. I moved to Toronto in January and elected not to bring my crappy old Ikea couch with me. I checked a few places but couldn't find any nice modern looking couches at reasonable prices, until I discovered EQ3. They were also having a sale (15% off I believe), which helped a little. The salesperson was helpful and friendly.
That's it for the good part of this story I'm afraid. I went with the salesperson to the counter and started giving her all the necessary details. That's when I found out that they charge $90 for delivery. I could understand this if I lived in Markham or something, but $90 for delivery to Yonge and Eglinton (their warehouse is near the beaches somewhere) seems excessive. But I wasn't going to back out at this point, so I agreed. I was told it would take 5-8 weeks.
Exactly 8 weeks later, on a Saturday, tired of waiting, I go in to EQ3 (You can't call them - more on that later). They look me up in the computer and tell me that my couch is in the warehouse. Why had no one called me I ask? They tell me that it came in the week before but they only have one employee who calls people to arrange deliveries, and that she probably hadn't gotten to me yet. As pathetic as that was, I let it go, and asked to arrange for a delivery time. I am immediately told that there are no delivery times available for the following week. Great, so I have to wait yet another full week for my couch. Not so fast Terry! They do not delivery east of Yonge Street until late in the week, so I actually have to wait until the following Thursday (12 days) for delivery. I pick the 5:00 - 10:00 delivery slot.
That Thursday, 2 days short of 10 weeks after ordering the couch, at 4:10 in the afternoon, the delivery service calls me - "Am I home to receive my couch?" No I'm not, because as you will recall, the delivery slot was for 5:00 - 10:00. Not inclined to complain about something being early (and at this point just happy to finally see an end to this adventure), I knock off work early and run home to meet my new couch.
At first the couch looks really nice, however I was not warned that the microfiber fabric leaves hand prints, head prints, and butt prints, every time you touch it. Also, even though it is only 3 months old now, the fabric has already stretched a little so it does not hold tight around the cushions. So sad.
This is a record-length review for me, but I can't wrap this up without mentioning my experience of trying to call the store. You can't. When you call you are greeted by an auto-attendant which gives you a few options. There is one option ("sales" I believe) which is supposed to get you the store, but it always just sends you to a voicemail system. I did leave a voicemail, which was returned the following week, by someone who had no idea what I wanted, even though I left the details on the voicemail. There is another option from the auto-attendant for "customer service". This routes you to, if I remember correctly, Edmonton. Unfortunately this customer service team is unable to help with questions about deliveries. I'm not quite clear what 'services' they do provide.
