| - It was hard for me to pick a star rating on this one as we were there a few days before the experience I am going to talk about in this review and it was GREAT. Sandwiches were good, servers were great, enough TV's to see all the NCAA games, it was a really good experience all around, which is why we went back a few days later, which is what the following review is about.
We came in around 11:30am so we had about 90 minutes before the baseball game started at 1pm across the street, thinking that should be plenty of time. There was only one table of people in the inside, then 2 tables of people in the outside area. Our server came over pretty quick to get our drink order, but quite awhile went by and she didn't come back. It was long enough to where I got up and went inside to see if maybe she forgot. I didn't see her or anyone else that worked there, so figured they were in the kitchen. Not a big deal, it just seemed odd take that long to get a couple beers and a coke. She finally brought them over, left again, then came later to take our food order. We have one friend who is a Vegan and he said, I don't see it on the menu, but I am a Vegan so just double checking that you don't have a Veggie Burger option. The server said, "no, but we have a Turkey Burger". Of course, we kind of laughed and said, thanks, but that is not an option for a Vegan. Again, not a big deal at all, just leading up to the big issues.
One of us ordered a Club Sandwich and I ordered a BLT. There were 2 other people with us as well, but their food was fine. It took about 30 minutes for all the food to come out, which at this point made it so we had been there about an hour, so now having to hurry to finish up to get to the game. I had asked for a side of mayo as the sandwich was really dry and the server brought over the prepackaged mayo, which I thought was odd, but whatever, I opened one and started squeezing it out of the package onto the sandwich and it came out some sort of chunky, reddish color. I literally have no idea what the heck was in it. NO idea. The package did say mayo, so maybe it was mislabeled or just really, really, really expired. As this was happening to my BLT , the person who ordered the Club took a bite of his sandwich and said it tasted really funky, like they put fish on it. I took a bite of it as well and had to spit it out as it was rancid. I believe it was the Ham, but neither one of us was willing to take another bite to figure out just what part had gone bad, but the Ham smelled really bad. It smelled like fish and tasted worse.
We got the servers attention and told her the 2 issues. She could plainly see the issue with the mayo being chunky and red on my sandwich and her suggested solution was to just retoast some new bread and just replace the bread. I jokingly said, can I get some mayo from the kitchen this time and not from a package that has gone bad? She said no, they were supposed to only give us the packaged one's, but she could ask. Um ok. I told her I would pass and to just take the sandwich as between the chunky red mayo and the rancid fishy tasting Club, I had pretty much lost my appetite at this point. When we told her about the rancid tasting Club Sandwich, she just took it. She didn't offer anything else, she just took it. So, long story short, 2 of us had inedible sandwiches and the plates were just taken away, no " Wow, I am SO sorry" or " Can I offer you anything else?" She just took the plates and left. We sat as the other 2 finished their food. She brought the check over and she did take off the 2 sandwiches, so at least we didn't have to argue about it.
The final straw was we decided to make sure she told the cook or manager as she seemed very indifferent and these were health issues that can make people sick not just, " hey, I don't like the taste". As we were leaving, the person with the rancid Club sandwich asked her if there was a manager we could talk to and did she tell the cook so he can figure out what the issue was and take care of it before someone else ordered it or got sick and her answer was, " I am slammed right now and don't have time to deal with it, I told the cook you didn't like it".
Yikes.
I work for a food distribution company and so understand that not everything is the restaurants fault when something goes wrong, sometimes they get expired food in a delivery or it was left out of the cooler and I know the nasty mayo package wasn't their fault, it came that way, so this was more about feeling like they just didn't care that these issues could cause someone to get really sick and the indifference was really scary.
I won't get too graphic here, but let's just say the 2 of us that took a bite of the rancid Club Sandwich did not feel so hot the rest of the day....at all.
