  • Disclaimer: I never went in to the branch, I did everything online/through e-mail. I recently moved back to Charlotte and purchased a used 07 Civic (if you want to read the sh*tshow that was that car, please read my reviews! lol). I went ahead and bought insurance through Jack English online before moving to town so I had proof before purchasing the vehicle, plus the online quotes I received were not really very far apart in price. I never spoke with anyone on the phone or heard from State Farm (other than a call trying to get me to come in to buy other products/policies) until someone e-mailed me asking for proof of residence. First problem: as requested, I sent her a copy of my car's title plus my NC license via e-mail and asked for her to confirm when she received it. Heard nothing. Got a letter from the state saying my insurance would be cancelled since the they couldn't verify my residence. I then e-mailed and called State Farm for over a week before someone finally got in touch with me to say they'd already submitted proof of residence and to ignore the letter from the state. Well, how was I supposed to know that when I received no confirmation of State Farm receiving it? After I got rid of the 07 a month after buying it (ugh), I e-mailed Sheila, who I'd been working with previously, to get a quote for my new '16 Civic. I'd found a deal through another insurer for $65 cheaper per month for the exact same coverage, so obviously I wanted to give her a chance to offer any incentives or discounts to see if they could do anything to be competitive and keep me around. I got a call back the same day for an excessively high quote and was told it was because I had a 3 point accident in my driving record (I don't). I felt really pressured by Sheila as she told me I needed to keep my insurance with her to avoid "driving around like that" (uninsured) even though I hadn't cancelled my policy yet. I was then told that if I cancelled before my term was up, I'd be subject to a short rate. This is standard in NC, which I knew, but I did not pay for my 6 months upfront, so I was not expecting a large amount to remain in order for me to cancel. I'm still waiting to hear back what the amount I owe is (it'll still be less than whatever I'm saving per month now). I cancelled my policy on 3/3 and got confirmation on 3/13 that it had been cancelled. As of 3/3 or 3/13, I don't know, because the email I got was literally this: "Hi Lauren yes it is cancelled". A customer shouldn't have to call or email for weeks on end without hearing back and I shouldn't have felt pressured to stay with State Farm. I am glad I switched, which is too bad because everyone I've spoken to about this says this isn't typical State Farm style. Oh well - I'm a happy customer elsewhere now!
