| - This members only club is the main competitor to Calgary's elitist Glencoe Club. The main difference between the Winter Club and Glencoe is that, you don't have to be born into a family that has a membership or be Brett Wilson.
Its got all you could ask for in a private club: dining, snack bar, gym, two pools, tons of squash and racquet courts, b-ball, curling and badminton, large locker rooms and a family locker room as well.
There are tons of athletic programs you can sign up for kids up for, if you want them to get into synchronized swimming, this is probably a good place to start!
The Winter Club has some upgrading to do. As a patron of the Club I feel it has always been under constant renovation. There used to be a skating rink, no more. I think they are redoing the curling lanes at the moment too. Locker rooms are being upgraded again for the second time in 10 years, they are supposedly building a climbing wall, and I have always heard talk of a running track, but we will see.
If you are a member, you can bring guests, it costs $17 for an a day's access to the facilities for one over 18. Only problem is there is no half day rate, or evening rate. So if you want to go bowling at 8 pm. Boom.
You have been good to me Winter Club, I feel privileged that as a child and teen I had the opportunity to use your facilities, but now as an adult, I can't stay under my parents membership and will have to buy in for myself.
That dear Club, I cannot do. If I have to take out a bank loan (it's cheaper than the Glencoe, but not by any means is it still affordable!) to continue to be a member, no thanks, I will clean out my locker shortly.
