| - I stopped by Kriegers after driving past it a few times on my way to an appointment. The red barn and large sign about it being a health food store with fresh produce lured me in, and after checking out the reviews, I was excited to see what they had to offer.
I agree with the other yelpers in that the layout of the store is a bit unintuitive and kind of confusing to navigate. However, I didn't really mind it much. They have an extensive selection of produce, and I would have to say that they have the largest organic fruit choices out of all the choices in the Akron area. I've shopped at Mustard Seed, Earth Fare, West Point Market, and the box stores, and Krieger's has them all beat on local & organic fruit choices.
On my visit, I excitedly picked up about $45 worth of fresh fruit and a few nuts, including a bag of honey sesame almonds, which were delicious. Unfortunately, when we began to sample the fruits a day or two after bringing them home, many of them had gone bad. About a third of the bag of cherries had been bruised or smashed, but these were not visible from the outside of the pre-packaged selection. Two of the six apples were inedible and those also went into the garbage. The plums and nectarines were great, however. The strawberries also had about a third of them that were too smushy for my taste.
Based on my first experience, I may try Kriegers once more, just to see if I have better luck the second time around. If I'm not impressed then, I won't be coming back and I'll be sticking to my regular trips to the other natural/organic markets that are closer to home and a bit more reliable as far as quality goes.
