| - We tried several items today. I'll start with the hot items...The ground beef pie, which came with a side of potato salad, and a curried chicken pie also with potato salad. Both were excellent, pastry was light flakey, fillings seasoned perfectly and both pies were a nice size. They came pipping hot and deep golden brown, looked a good as they tasted. The potato salad was perfect, and I am a harsh critic when it comes to potato salad! It's often the side dishes that get poorly executed, but not here, it was yummy.
We were off to such a great start so we had to try some of the sweet offerings. I want a homemade desert, like your momma really knew how to cook and was back there in the kitchen. not a grocery story or chain bakery surgery taste.
Again, they nailed it! We had a slice of peach cake with fresh whipped cream on the top, a moist cake with unsweetened whipped cream...just like I'd serve it at home! We took home a mini (about the size of a cup cake) orange almond loaf cake, it was so moist, and nutty, with orange rind...omg...almost sent my husband back out in the car to buy more...and he was willing to go, it was that good.
I guess I should also mention the beverages, since this is a coffee shop...I had their white iced green tea and hubby had a latte. Both were good. The gents behind the counter were friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The seating is coffee shop seating more than restaurant seating. There were folks sprawled out with their laptops. They have sofa-type seating plus high bar stools....neither are great alternatives for senior bones...with only small tables and the community table offering regular chairs, and those chairs will not win any awards for comfort. But if we'd gotten too comfy we would have just ordered a second latte and more almond cake! This could be my regular lunch, coffee spot if the seating was a bit friendlier, but I'm giving five stars as the seating is a personal ADA issue with me and the food was terrific!
Note to dining establishments....seniors here in Scottsdale eat out...a lot, and spend....a lot. A few chairs that are 18" in height, with arms, should be standard (ADA recommendations) ...just saying. When you get knee or hips replaced, you'll understand.
