| - This review pertains to a dinner on 12/25/2011. Admittedly, I had heard nothing of detail about this restaurant, but came in hopeful and wanting to be impressed. I love French food variants, so I was looking forward to exploring another restaurant.
The food itself was alright, many of them were good ideas but lacked in execution via being served awkwardly or just not prepared correctly. Much of my family's meal was overseasoned. Every dish consistently felt as if the chef had a very heavy hand on the salt.
In particular, I was excited to have the bone marrow, as bone marrow is one of my favorite indulgences. Anyway, the marrow itself was prepared well, but it was accompanied by oxtail jam/relish/stuff as well as a few thin croutons. The oxtail mixture had shallots and capers, which while flavorful, made the oxtail jam so overwhelming and overseasoned that the bone marrow's taste was eclipsed completely. Because the dish was so salty, I had to use the table bread to eat with this item.
I ordered the beef cheek for dinner, which was also good. The beef was prepared well, and had a good texture, but was somewhat bland in comparison to the very salty greens that accompanied it. The potatoes kind of faded into the background on that one too. The dish was supposed to have creamy chanterelles but the mushrooms were simply chopped and tossed into the salty greens, making me very sad.
Service was pretty standard, though miscommunications did occur.
At least they serve a very strong cocktail! The bread and butter was sadly one of my family's favorite parts of the dinner.
If I could rate 2.5 stars, I would do that.
