| - Got a restaurant.com certificate for this place. Reviews seemed reasonable, so thought I'd try it.
This used to be Chinese Gourmet buffet. I remember that place. This is not a buffet, but a table-service restaurant.
First, they have a large menu. Lots of choices including many authentic dishes. Appropriate music (Chinese) is playing. Despite it being lunch time the place is very empty. Including us a total of 5 people the entire time we were there.
The bathroom smells bad. Toilets were flushed, but still smells bad. Tile falling off of the wall too.
On to the food. The hot and sour soup was OK. I had the Szechuan beef, and it was tasty. They were stingy with the rice, but for me it wasn't a big problem because I'm trying to reduce my intake of rice and other grains. Other people might not be happy with the rice quantity, though. I would give the Szechuan beef 3.5 stars if I were rating only that.
My wife got the kung pao chicken. It tasted odd. I've been to Taiwan, and I know what Taiwanese kung pao is like. This was different. And not very spicy. I definitely wouldn't order this again if we ever return. 1.5 stars on that one.
For the size of the portion I also think they are a little over-priced. Not dramatically, but for $11 for the beef i expect maybe 20% more than what we got. Other places would probably charge $8-9 for the same amount, I would guess, and that would have been more reasonable. Like I said, not outrageous, but I did notice it.
So I have to go with 2 stars here. Really 2.5, but I can't do that on Yelp. As the two-star rating says "I've experienced better". And I have.
