| - Do it, do it, do it! I noticed Lobbys go into the Bashas' strip mall near me several months ago, and it's sort of been in the back of my mind ever since. The other night I had a burger craving, so I decided to give it a try.
When I walked in, there was a middle-aged couple at the counter chatting with the owner. Naturally, I eavesdropped while scanning the menu on the wall. The middle-aged man, who had an unmistakable Chicago accent, was asking the owner what kind of "daahgs" and buns they use. Upon receiving his answer, the man said, "You're a good man! Oh, you're a good man!" I took this as a good sign.
I decided to order a burger with cheese and french fries. The owner asked me if I'd like to make it a combo, which means fries and a drink for $2.79 (as opposed to 1.89 each for fries and drink). Sure, I said. Well, the drink was certainly worth the price. It was one of those two-handers that don't fit in your cup holder. This is a positive in my book.
When I opened the bag at home, I was temporarily disappointed to see the fries were of the crinkle-cut variety. Crinkle-cuts always remind me of frozen Ore-Idas. However, these fries made me a crinkle-cut believer! They were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and I'm 90% sure the owner makes them to order. In other words, these were made fresh for ME! On to the burger. Wow. The bun was toasted a tad, the burger was juicy and perfectly-sized. Also, real cheddar is a refreshing change from the Kraft singles you seem to get at most places. Everything down to the pickles, which were those crunchy half-sours, was PERFECT. Yay Lobby's!
