  • Have you ever had such a bad visit to a medical facility, that you actually (finally) create a Yelp account just so people know what happens there? After taking a few days to calm down over this, I'd like to tell you how my visit to this urgent care went. My visit was due to an ingrown toenail, that had become red and tender. Knowing from previous experience that this could end in infection I went to have the toenail cut. I was seen by a William Black who spent 20 seconds staring at my toe,  poked it twice,  then said I had cellulitis,  the cause of which was undetermined, and the he would prescribe an antibiotic. Once the cellulitus was healed, he said, I could come back to treat the ingrown toe. I inquired as to why I would come back twice, when the so called infection was caused by the ingrown toe,  and have to pay for treatment twice. His response is that he did not feel comfortable removing the nail in case this "serious infection got into my bones". I asked him for his information, including his name as he didn't introduce himself by name when he came in. He said I could ask at the front desk for who he was. I asked for the corporate office number. He ignored that one and walked out. He then came back with a diagnosis sheet of Paronychia, not cellulitis, and a prescription for a skin infection. I asked again why he was requiring me to have two visits for the same problem when he could pull the nail that was obviously causing the "infection". He responded that he didn't even see an ingrown nail. I asked why he told me to return the following week to have the ingrown toenail cut if he now says it isn't ingrown. He simply walked out of the room. I then went to the front desk and waited several minutes for someone to come up front. One employee started to come up, saw me standing there and went into another room. Finally a second employee came up and gave me a card with their email, and when asked for the name of the doctor he wrote the wrong name on the card. I pointed out that the name was different than the name on my prescription. He took the card back, crossed out the fake name and wrote the correct one. I'd like to note at this point, I had behaved calmly. No raised voice, no attitude, simply a straightforward question about why he was declining to treat the issue at hand. You know, his job? I left the facility, and immediately went to St. Luke's emergency room. After explaining the situation, it was recommended that I have a medical screening to avoid the $500 copay required at an emergency room, if your doctor was indeed correct about such a "serious infection". Well, surprise. Turns out I have an ingrown toenail that is inflamed, but not infected, and the doctor at St. Luke's offered to either cut the nail (if I wanted to pay that copay) or take a referral to a podiatrist. I took the referral, which is the only reason I haven't looked into an attorney. Requiring a patient to come back twice (and pay twice for one issue) as well as misdiagnosis and writing prescriptions that were clearly not needed; if it isn't illegal, it's certainly reprehensible. I will never visit another one of your locations and I have already sent an email to your customer support.
