| - Quick Overview:
Pros:
* Decent sized bathrooms, clean showers, restocked toilet papers
* Nice community of travelers, lots of recommendations and nightly discounted events, local staff
* Full kitchen, washing machines, microwaves, and fridges
* Few blocks from the Stratosphere with the bus stop and ticket vending machine
* Not too far of an Uber ride to the strip
Cons:
* Blankets are never washed, pillows are gross, and mattress probably not clean, metal bunk bed creaks
* They have no policy with locals staying here, sorta kills the hostel experience with locals sleeping here semi permanently (not that they're bad people or anything)
* NO kitchen access in the early mornings, you're pretty much locked out until then (bad for early birds)
* Tiny lockers
* NO free breakfast (at least a bagel or something?)
You get what you pay for. Pretty run down place for the price you pay, located in the sketchy stripclub neighborhoods a few blocks from The Stratosphere off the strip. The hostel is safely gated however and the rooms of course locked. The staff seems friendly but they won't go out of their way for you, mostly young hipster-like locals. You may find many locals sleeping here because the rent is so cheap, don't think they have a policy on that (there are actually real travelers coming here though so that was nice). The rooms have 6 beds, 3 bunk beds and small lockers. You get a towel, pillow case, and blanket sheet cover (blankets are already in the room). The pillows and blankets were like what you see at a homeless shelter or army barracks. The rooms were decent; pretty large and there's warm running water and the toilet paper was restocked daily. The heater machine settings were inaccessible and blocked (I stayed during the winter in January so it was chilly out) so you cannot change the temperature. The heater would get too hot so my room mates would turn it off completely, then I would wake up freezing cold in the night (January is COLD!). They have a full kitchen, dining tables, and movie room with movies playing on a small TV. They host nightly flat-rate events with rides to multiple clubs/bars (which I didn't participate in). There is NO free breakfast like the people have said on Yelp, they no longer have that. The entire kitchen is completely closed during a certain time frame, so if you are here for work like me (CES) you're pretty much screwed if you're waking up early. Luckily there was a Jack-In-The-Box near the Stratosphere, about a 12 minute walk away that opens early at 5:30AM and I was able to get a hot drink and something to eat during the gruesome cold early mornings of January.
Pro Tip: There is a bus stop and bus ticket vending machine at the Stratosphere where you can buy a 3 day bus pass for very cheap, then download the "Transit" app to look up real time bus schedules and learn out how to ride the bus. It's a straight trip all the way down to the strip, probably like 10-12 minutes. If you were to walk to the strip, it will take you almost an hour. You can take Uber as well, they're mostly found circling around the Stratosphere so it's probably cheaper if you walked there to get picked up.
Verdict: I would stay again because it's so cheap and I've learned my way around. If I were to party in Vegas, I'd rather just stay at a real hotel on the strip.. however this hostel is a cheap alternative if you're on a budget or a work trip. Tip: always book DIRECTLY on their website, if you use a booking agency like booking.com you will get charged more although they claim they don't charge extra. Bring a towel or ask for an extra one to wrap around the pillow case because the pillows are gross.
