It was my first time here and realized it would be almost impossible not to order the pasta with uni and tomato cream sauce every time I visit. Trattoria Nakamura-Ya is conveniently located in a strip mall in Chinatown, so you can stain your shirt with squid ink pasta and get it cleaned on the same day. It is also easy to find because there is a bright shining light on the restaurant that has the restaurant's name in all capitals. The meal started off with the bruschetta, which were actually kind of good. The octopus with wasabi cream was too good to explain in words and the other two were just great. We also ordered the beef carpaccio and cheese platter as appetizers. The beef carpaccio was very good but it could have used some more arugula for more of a textural contrast. Cheese platters usually don't excite me but this one was amazing. However, the mini caprese salad that came with the cheeses was overdressed. It was more like balsamic soup with ovalini mozzarella, basil, and cherry tomatoes. For the entrée course, everyone ordered the uni pasta which was super great. Most Americans do not like uni, or sea urchin, because of it's booger-like texture. This uni was very smooth after being blended with cream and tomatoes. The pasta also came with scallops, which tasted amazing but lacked the hard sear it needed. Trattoria Nakamura-Ya is a great restaurant to visit when you are in the Las Vegas area.
