| - I'm under-impressed.....TO SAY THE LEAST!
My boyfriend lives in the hood. I'm not a fan of the neighborhood, but it's not my house. When we first started dating the fact that there was a strong police presence in the neighborhood was comforting. In the past few years, I've noticed a significant decline of cops...unless there is drama happening.
He lives across the street from a rental where there are teen-age kids who scream inappropriate things out the windows, hang on electrical wires obstructing traffic, and all manner sorts of domestic violence and drugs. The cop are over there frequently, but only after someone has made a phone call. Where the absent parents are 95% of the day, I don't know.
A week or so ago my beau's car was broken into. He happened upon the "would-be thieves" as they were running away from his car at 5 am. He was on his way to work, and they messed that up royally. They (we think) didn't finished the job because it is a standard shift car. We figured they didn't know how to operate such "fancy" equipment. Granted my man drives a POS car, but they did over $1000 worth of damage and quite frankly, we wished they would have just taken the dumb thing.
So my beau calls the "ever-ready" CLE PD. 3 hours later...still no cops. Call again, and the new dispatcher says, "We don't have any record of your initial call." Really!?!? What the heck are you people doing? Shift change at 5 am perhaps? Donuts? Coffee? Come on. So, he calls & says there are 2 people running down his street away from his recently broken-into car and NO ONE COMES TO CHECK IT OUT!? Brilliant. Completely, and totally brilliant.
After the 2nd phone call the CLE PD deign to show up and have an attitude...immediately. Sorry, dude, I know you were probably doing something REALLY important. So my beau explains, nicely, gently, even, that he's been waiting around and that the initial call didn't get made, and the cop is being rude and argumentative saying it isn't his "fault" but the dispatcher yada yada. And I see the cop and say, I'm sorry but 3 hours is ridiculous, and the cop starts to pick a verbal fight with me. Really? You're going to show up am IMMEDIATELY pick a fight with a woman? Classy CLE PD, VERY classy!
The cop is jotting a few things down, asking minimal questions and says to my beau, "Your police report will be posted and ready in 7-10 days. The man says, "Thank you so much, may I have my car towed now?" The eloquent Cop replies, "It's your car, you can do whatever you want with it." Nice. Thank you again Mr. Po-Po, I'm impressed by your great social skills, respect, and social niceties you HAVE NOT provided.
So the nice neighbor lady is out and of course she wants to know what is happening, so she asks and I tell her. She sticks around to be nosy and then heads inside. She comes out later when we're having the car towed and says, "Man, that cop was a total dick." My thoughts exactly.
To cap this all off with a nice bow, the man calls regarding the police report & the dispatcher says, "Oh, those are always posted within 24 hours." My beau replies, "So the police officer I spoke with, who filed the report, lied to me? He told me 7-10 days." To which the dispatcher gets very silent and quiet and says, "Yes, I'm terribly sorry, but they NEVER take that long."
What this long story goes to show is the ineptness of the CLE PD, the lack of communication skills, the lack of concern, and empathy towards people. I'm not happy CLE PD, and quite frankly, I think you owe my beau an apology.
