  • We were very disappointed with the food during Sunday brunch at Lidia's Pittsburgh. We have been there a few times for brunch previously and found it quite good. It was surprising to find that the food has taken such a downturn. Firstly, the the two buffets have been changed. The first buffet which has different salads, cheeses and charcuterie was half the size as previously. The Cesar salad's lettuce was browned on the edges so it was not recently made. One of the plates with broiled clams was removed but never replaced with clams or an alternative. For the main I had eggplant parmesan and my husband had duck and potato hash. Both were seasoned with so much salt someone with hypertension could have gone into cardiac arrest. The eggplant was breaded so heavily I could knock on it with a knife and couldn't taste the eggplant. The sauce had an equally heavy hand, making the entire dish practically inedible. I ended up going back to the paltry salad options as I could not eat the eggplant. My husband's hash was okay, but again, the salt was overwhelming. We had had such good experiences with the buffet and entrees before, it was nothing less than an incredible let down to see such a small buffet table with items not replaced, and for the most part, inedible entrees. The waiter and manager were attentive. The waiter asked if we were ready for our entree, something much appreciated, as I dislike being served food one after the other with no time to talk and digest the food you've eaten prior to the next. Both the waiter and manager stopped by the table and asked about the food and service. At that point we should have advised them of the overly salted food and questioned why the buffet was half the size it used to be, but sometimes you just don't want to complain, especially while dining. Also, the service was excellent so I didn't want to complain at that time. We did tell the young girl at the desk near the door about our experience while leaving.. She said that she would advise staff and management on our experience and I do believe that she did. I doubt that we'll go to Lidia's again. If the executive and sous chef are letting this sort of food leave their kitchen without having them redone before service they need new chefs. I'd also like to know why there was such a heavy cut back on the salad/charcuterie buffet. There used to be pasta, seafood salads and a good cheese selection. It not only is half the size but it was upsetting that staff did not replace the dishes as they should have, including entirely empty plates We are frequent diners of the restaurants in Pittsburgh. But sorry, Lidia's. We always had enjoyed our brunch there but will now look for other places for brunch and lunch and dinner.
