| - At first I really liked this gym because of its size, it's absolutely enormous. I asked three different staff members how big is this gym for square footage and nobody knew, and nobody ever bothered to try to find out for me. I'm guessing it's over 600,000 ft.², no exaggeration. But the longer I stay here the less I like it, my husband is paying quite a bit of money I think it works out to $60 per person per month, and we are four people in this family so that's quite high. Realistically during winter it is very rare that we are here more than once a week because we usually ski, and now that summer is here we were hoping we would use the gym more often but my kids are really not crazy about it so there, we are already losing about $120 a month for nothing. Plus for myself I just found out I have a full-time job that's going to be very physical and muscular and demanding for about 10 hours a day, realistically there is no chance I'm going to stop at the gym on the way home, nor will I need more exercise. Therefore I called them to see if I could switch my calendar to only weekends and pay a little less and of course the answer was absolutely not. So I asked if I could put my membership on hold for a while, and I found out if I want to reduce my monthly fee by $20 a month, therefore I pay only $40 a month, then I will have my membership on hold but I won't be able to use it. Let's think about that .....so they want me to pay $40 a month to NOT use the gym........What kind of person would agree to something like that? So then I asked well, maybe I'll just cancel the membership completely and just pay on the rare days that I use it for a drop in visit. Guess how much it cost to use the gym for one day? $35! I have never ever in my life been to a gym that charges more than $10 for a one day fee. Who pays $35 to spend an hour or two and a gym? Meanwhile it's located on a mountain in nose Hill Park which is full of amazing running trails, if you want to work out just walk up and down those hills for an hour and I promise it's probably better for your body then when you get inside the building.......Another Problem is the fact that often the personal trainers in the red uniforms outnumber the clients by about 9 to 1. It worries me that clearly my client fee is paying playing a lot of salaries, and they all stare at you like there are shocked that they've never seen you before, it's rather offputting. This is a gym for Christ sake, it's not the bar called cheers where everybody is supposed to know your name and they're pissed if they don't know you already.....The other thing is setting up appointments with these personal trainers is quite a rigmarole. They're quite expensive I think they get paid $55 per hour, and they often try to double up, for example they had me bring in both my kids at the same time for the introduction to the gym. But if you're talking to two teenagers at the same time, you're not giving as much personal instruction, correct? Therefore I paid $110 for one hour when I should've got two hours. Or one hour each for two people...My sons personal trainer spent about 45 minutes of the one hour talking about himself, he said it was to give some backstory and history so the kids know who they're dealing with but honestly is it important for two teenage boys to know the number of kids this guy grew up with in his family, and the ages of his children now... For example "my daughter is 17 months and three days old as of today no... Was it three days old or two days old, I think she 17 months and two days old as of today"...... do you really think the two teenage boys care at all? They just want to get in and get out they don't care about your life story, you should know your audience.......Also, since I've joined this gym two months ago 100% of the time when I check in, I guess messages pop up on the receptionist computer screen and they usually are leaving comments to me and like "oh by the way one of the trainers was trying to get hold of you... He couldn't get hold of you... Hoops sorry that was an old message from last week please delete that... "But really I've never walked into the gym when I didn't have a long confused convoluted conversation like that. Please let me just get into the goddamn gym and do my thing without being hassled, is that possible please?....... also an update...The pool is over 2 weeks late opening this year... This is really really annoying, the pool was the biggest selling feature and we get different excuses every single day why the pool is not yet open and they don't know when it will open. The latest excuse is they are waiting for a licence to be mailed SNAIL MAIL from the government proving that they can open. Who uses SNAIL MAIL, come on, there MUST be a better way !
