| - Let me start by saying, Thank God for Bells Market. I own a small business across the street and I am constantly having to go into the store to grab small necessities at all hours of the day. Doesn't matter what we need in the office from toilet paper, soap, food, water, to the occassional beer after a long day... Bells has it. On top of the product selection the staff is great and the owner Jimmy is a really nice guy that takes the time to say hi and chat everytime I'm in.
That being said, I couldn't disagree more strongly with the other review on this account. Not only is Bells convenient for my company and co-workers but this market is an absolute necessity for the community. Bells offer groceries, life amenities, and money transfer service (Western Union) that I have witnesed first hand helping out low-income residents of the surrounding neighborhoods by providing a convenient one stop shop for whatever they need. Sure some of the food might not be the healthiest, but if you take a further look much of these items are carried in your local Albertsons and Smiths. The food products are designed to be cost effective so as to not price the market right out of the very demographic it exist to serve. We'd all love to see low-income families eating, "some craft pastries and sandwiches, various specialty nosh, a nice array of fresh seasonal fruit and veggies," but look how ridiculous that sounds! How can one afford craft pastries and specialty nosh on a government assistance program?
As for the drug dealing, I can attest with my very own eyes this is absolutely absurd. This guy makes the front of Bells Market sound like an episode of The Wire. The saying "looks can be deceiving" exists for a reason and the majority of the people this guy is more than likely referring to are actually really nice people that are a little down on their luck and unfortunately don't have the income to afford the Ralph Lauren polos and nice pair of Dockers I'm sure this guy would have them in.
It makes me sad to see that negative review especially with 7/11 and AM/PM right around the corner selling the very same items this guy is griping about. Apparently he'd rather spend his time ripping an honest business owner that provides an undeniable benefit to his community (above and beyond what his corporate competitors offer). I see Bells Market everyday when I pull up to my office, throughout my workday and when I leave for the evening... Believe me, Bells is truly a blessing to the area and represents exactly what Las Vegas needs and the Downtown Spirit demands- driven individuals willing to make an entrepeuerial leap for the benefit of their surrounding community. I'm proud to call Bells Market my neighborborhood store of choice and I encourage you to do the same.
