  • It's amazing how some things are right there hiding in plain sight! Of the many visits I've made to the Cultural Gardens it took a wrong turn to lead me to the greenhouses, and boy was happy I zigged instead of zagged. There's a few beautifully landscaped gardens outside consisting of a Japanese garden, and a talking garden in honor of Helen Keller. Then inside the acutal greenhouses you are treated to some many types of plants it'll make your head spin. That also might be caused by the abundance of oxygen being given off by the plants, but I'll save the lessons on human respiration for another time. As you make your way through the greenhouses you'll be treated to an ever changing array of plants that vary based on the seasons. There's a huge orange tree and grapefruit tree that I had to talk myself out of climbing up to reach the just ripening fruits. One of the sections is dedicated to succulants, and there's more types of cacti for viewing then I'd ever care to fall into! And to top it all off...it's FREE. Free parking and free admission to this wonderful treasure. Not too bad for something that was started about 100 years ago as a place to grow the plants used for all of the various city parks in CLE!
