| - My husband and I leased a house from Haven Homes (Temple Street homes) in July 2013. The rent was $1325 + $90.00 per month for Giggling Marlins pool service. Here are just a few details:
According to Haven Homes, we could not service the pool ourselves, we HAD to go through Giggling Marlins.
We moved in and everything was pretty decent except the pool condition was deteriorating rapidly and the air conditioner was starting to die. We called Haven Homes several times and asked for help and were always told someone would get back to us, but they never did. We were not very happy with the customer service, but continued on...About 10 months after we moved in, my husband had an unexpected stroke, and after ICU, he was in a rehabilitation center for a few weeks. He had just come home and was still very weak and getting used to life at home, relearning how to walk, etc when our lease came due. I called the main office to ask if we could sign by mail or if someone could come out to witness the signing of the lease at our house and was told No, that my husband HAD to come down to sign the new lease himself and that I (even though we are married) could not sign for him. So, I got my extremely tired, limping, upset husband into the truck and found my way downtown Las Vegas to a very crummy building & dangerous parking area and we re-signed the lease for $1425.00 + $90.00 pool service.
Mind you, my husband had slanted double vision at the time and walking was extremely difficult for him. We were still in shock that he had actually had a stroke, and we certainly didn't need to be dragging him all over town, but we were in no shape to move and I didn't know what kind of recovery he would have, so I thought it would be best just to re-sign the lease for now. We re-signed for 2 years as it was cheaper than for 1 year.
Some time passed and the air conditioner died the following spring. It took us two and a half months of multiple repeated visits to the house, several half-assed "maybe this will work" repairs and many phone calls and lots of frustration before we finally got a new air conditioner.
The pool was a joke; here we were paying extra in the rent for the pool and extra to some other company to have it serviced and the plaster is coming off in the water and needed to be resurfaced badly.
We couldn't use it the last year and a half of our lease. We asked repeatedly for someone to come out and look at the pool. Haven Homes would say it was up to Giggling Marlins, Giggling Marlins would say it was up to Haven Homes... And so it went on..
When we moved out, we were told the house was immaculate (it was, we even paid $500 to have the floors professionally cleaned) and it was truly "move in ready".
Russ did our inspection and said everything was great and the only one thing was "If he was going to be picky, he would charge us for the master bathroom showerhead, but he was not going to charge us because the rest of the house was in such good condition and it had been 3 years.."
(The problem with the master bathroom showerhead was that we upgraded it and didn't replace the old plain one that came with the house.)
We all agreed the house was fine and signed the move out inspection papers, and then Haven Homes went ahead and docked us money to replace the showerhead that Russ said he wouldn't dock us on!! We were also charged a cleaning fee on an immaculate house!
We had given Haven Homes a temporary address when we first notified them that we were moving out, then we updated that address with Russ when we completed the move out inspection. We were reassured multiple times the security deposit check would go to the right address as Russ had sent the email straight to George. Of course it didn't, and this caused financial stress for us...Even when we got the security deposit check, the envelope had the correct address, but the check itself did not.
This is a terrible company to do business with- your problems are your problems, no one returns phone calls, repair and replacement are almost impossible!
When I told Chuck (George wouldn't come to the phone but we heard him in the background) that we were VERY unhappy with the security deposit check going to the wrong address situation he said to me in a very condescending tone,"oh but you had a very nice home for 3 years, didn't you?"
I was SO angry at the tone and his remark! What did it matter if we had a very nice home? We couldn't use they pool we were paying for! We had to fight for an air conditioner in Las Vegas! I had to take a man who had just had a STROKE all the way downtown to sign a stupid lease when they could have just as easily come out to see us! And they lied about not charging us on the move out agreement! Yes, we had a very nice house, and it's because we KEPT it in a very nice condition! Save yourself time and frustration-go find a different leasing company! You'll thank me later!
