  • For an expensive hotel it was nice enough, but it was expensive. There were broken things in our room, which did not greatly impact our stay, but showed that the building was already starting to age and not be maintained. our room had a kitchenette, which was nice. There was free popcorn, which was nice too. The shuttle was very nice and the chap helpful, it was a short 5-10 min drive to central oakland. The internet is not anonymous, and is thus probably logged. In staying here we were supporting Utah politicians, at least indirectly -- the Marriots are pretty politically active. Our bedside table had a bible and a book of morman. free netflix! --- but it's on your account. It is in Oakland, and is a short 10-15 walk to real Oakland, like the O, through the rougher part of Oakland. CMU according to google is 20 min, but that is to the edge of CMU in oakland, not to the fence. There are not restaurants 'close', they are somewhat not close, 4-5 blocks unless you think of Jimmy Johns as a restaurant. it reminded me of the phrase, are you buying or selling? If you are selling, it's in Oakland! if you are buying, it's not nearly as close as the Wyndham. Parking was not cheap and on top of a more than $200 bill (plus tax), it seemed gratuitous (well, actually the opposite of gratuitous). They have an outdoor lot, but my bat sense said, don't park there, it's the bad part of Oakland. The breakfast was nice, but not superb. I did appreciate that they scrambled their own eggs, but, again, it was egg beaters not eggs. breakfast ends early because you should be up and out to church and not laying about. The shower worked, but not much water pressure. no shower fahrnugen (shower pleasure). I found the indirect lighting the halls deeply humorous. Indirect lighting is a better form of lighting because the light from the light source does not directly hit your eye. In this case, when you look at your room door, the light is bounced off the wall, and it looks very nice. BUT, when you look down the hall (which is how you spend most of your time in the hall), all the other door's indirect light sources are now lined up at your eye as direct light sources, and its more than somewhat glaring. So, all that effort, and it was a huge fail. probably looked good in a powerpoint from the looking at the door viewpoint. I hope I don't stay there again.
